A coming of age young adult saga readers are comparing to Harry Potter, Wheel of Time, and Eragon. A tale of magic, ambition, betrayal . . . and compassion.

Fourteen-year-old Augum grew up with bullies instead of friends. In a kingdom where superstition trumped the written word, he fought loneliness by reading books and doing hard labor. It was a typical life for a gutter-born orphan.

An inferno changes everything. And Augum, having lost it all, begins again. He finds a mentor and even befriends Bridget and Leera, two passionate and quirky girls willing to give him a chance. Together they dream of becoming warlocks.

But Augum's mentor possesses an ancient and highly sought-after artifact. When an ambitious tyrant suddenly turns up demanding it, Augum resists--and discovers something about himself that changes the course of history. As the tyrant plunges them into a harrowing ordeal, Augum will have to use his newly-learned spells to try to save the only thing he has left . . . a friendship forged in fire.

Delve into the magical world of The Arinthian Line and see why fans describe Augum, Bridget and Leera as "beloved characters."

★★★★★ "This story started strong, stayed strong and ended leaving me wanting more immediately (without a cliffhanger ending)." --Nerd Girl Magazine

★★★★★ "An epic journey of survival and self discovery." --A. Hatfield, reviewer

★★★★★ "If you loved Harry Potter, Arcane has the same thrill and page-turning fun." -- reviewer

★★★★★ "This is one of the best-written stories that I have read in some time. It is a unique, well-crafted, character driven story that grabs you via curiosity at the beginning and invests you in the characters and world within the first few pages. Even when the world is first opened to you, the author works to whet your appetite for more. The world is rich and expansive while not being overwhelming. The attention to detail is commendable and enjoyable. The book drags you in and keeps the pages turning all the way through to the end. I have been recommending this to everyone I've know." --Matthew, reviewer

★★★★ "Where the author gets you hooked is that nothing seems forced, the plot rolls out naturally, and the magic and sorcery have merit and a quality based on believability." --Vancouver Writer

★★★★★ "From the fields of a small town to epic adventures that span a kingdom, The Arinthian Line series is a worthy successor to books where our humble hero overcomes all odds to save the day. Like the Lord of the Rings and the Shannara Chronicles before it, The Arinthian Line is a tale that cleaves to the core of our love of fantasy, while feeling entirely fresh and new." --Nebula, Theodore Sturgeon Memorial, and StorySouth Million Writers Award nominee Jake Kerr

★★★★★ "The story started with a familiar feel to it, reminding me a bit of the Harry Potter books, but it quickly proved itself to be an addictive read quite capable of standing on its own. It is a great escape from the day to day which is what I look for when choosing a book to take a mental vacation with." --T. Rohring, reviewer

★★★★★ "Fall in love with fantasy again." --Jay Fowler, reviewer

Arcane The Arinthian Line Book 1 edition by Sever Bronny Children eBooks

Similar in some ways to Mull's amazing Fablehaven, the Arcane is a spellbinding story of a "guttersnipe" who proves to be so much more than the eye can see. A fourteen year old orphan, who continually confounds his so called betters, he also seems to luck out everytime with a caring step parent who can keep him on his toes, teaching him the appropriate life lessons.
Then he meets Mrs. Stone, Bridget and Leera and his life changes forever.
This is an intriguing coming of age epic fantasy that captures your heart and attention almost from the first page and keeps your nose fixed between the pages. It is almost with a shock that you come to the end of the book. Fortunately there are more books in this series on hand. Enjoy!

Arcane The Arinthian Line Book 1 edition by Sever Bronny Children eBooks Reviews

This is one of the strongest first volumes to a fantasy series I've read. I ordered the other four before finishing! The characters are extremely well realized. You learn not just what they look like, what they're capable of and what their personalities are like; you also learn what makes them tick and why they are the way that they are. You can empathize with the main characters in this book and you will root for them like few books can make you do.

The book is a real page turner; pacing is excellent and there is a great combination of mystery, suspense, action, humor and plenty of genuine human connection and emotion. It's truly well written in every sense of the word.

The plot is outstanding and I can't wait to read the next one in the series (should arrive tomorrow). There is a very well-planned chain of events that will keep you interested throughout the duration of the story. I can honestly say that there were no real lulls for me. I plowed through the book in a few days during a busy work week; just couldn't put it down. There were some clever twists in the plot and you had great moments of realization while reading. I only saw one of the big twists coming before it happened (I can usually predict plot twists way in advance) but it was still fun to read.

If pressed to come up with criticism I might say that the book was perhaps a bit too short! That's a strange thing to say nowadays where every fantasy author believes they must be like George R. R. Martin and write thousand page tomes but there were a couple of sections of this book that perhaps could have used a bit more spacing out. An extra 50-100 pages might have let things breathe a bit better but that's really nitpicking.

Overall this is an amazing book by a very promising author and I look forward to reading the rest of his work.
As others have touched on summarizing the characters and plot I will forego that in this review and move straight into why I believe this book and series is one of the best I have read! There is pretty much something for every fan of the Fantasy genre in this book and throughout the entire series that will elicit deep interest and involvement in the storyline and characters. The characters of Augum, Leera, & Bridgit are written well and provide such a depth of detail that pull the reader into their lives and adventures allowing full investment into their stories and relationships.

Although this exciting epic is primarily a coming of age series it has a storyline that attracts older readers as well. I am 56 myself and absolutely found this book and the entire series compelling and a joy to read. There is some slight jarring of modern day euphemisms, mannerisms, and actions that do at times seem out of place in the medieval feeling theme of the storyline, but do not in any way take away from the epic adventures of the heroic trio.

I ordered the entire series at once and have completed it and although it had a really great end to it I can honestly say I was left with wanting more and found it in a second series set starting with "Burden's Edge, Fury of A Rising Dragon Book 1" and "Honor's Price, Fury of A Rising Dragon Book 2". I am now anxiously waiting for Book 3 to be written and released for more on the trio and adventures.
This is Sever Bronny's first novel, and I am impressed. There were a few minor editing errors, but they didn't detract at all from the story. Overall, this is a well-written book, and I expect Mr. Bronny's writing will continue to evolve and to delight readers.

Arcane is a coming-of-age sword-and-sorcery fantasy. The main characters (one boy, two girls) are 14-year-old magic users-in-training, but the writing, plot, and story are mature enough to appeal to anyone (I'm 47, and an avid fantasy reader). There is minimal cursing, but the story is not pollyanna-ish, which surprised me. I know that others have summarized the plot well enough that I don't need to rehash it. For me, it was kind of a Harry Potter/Eragon/The Wheel of Time. There's rarely a dull moment; it has lots of action and dialogue that keep moving the story forward.

I'm now about halfway through Book 2 ("Riven"), and am still loving the characters--their friendships, their travails, their lack of perfection, their humor, and their poignancy. I read reviews for books 2, 3, and 4, and they remain high, so I fully expect I'll finish the series. (Mr. Bronny plans for this series to be 5 books long.)

I highly recommend this book. I think it's appropriate for readers as young as maybe 10-12 years old (my kids are older now, so I'm trying to remember what level of writing they appreciated at what age...). And it's definitely appropriate for adults as well. There's no silly-assed, off-putting teen angst, just well-developed characters who happen to be 14, learning to "adult" fast in a scary and deadly world.
